"Stomach-flattening surgical procedures known as abdominoplasties or tummy tucks typically remove excess fat and skin, tighten muscle, reposition the belly button, and frequently require an overnight hospital stay and a painful two-week recovery. But for women with loose skin only below the navel or small lower-belly protrusions, a lower abdominoplasty can get patients back to work in four or five days, reported Gerald H. Pitman, a plastic surgeon in New York City, at a meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Among 87 patients, the only complications were five minor infections. The 45-minute operation, which removes a narrow ellipse of skin and underlying tissue without cutting into muscle or the area around the navel, requires no drains or an overnight hospital stay and can be combined with liposuction…"
